In the Oil and Gas industry we are often required to measure tensile loads in chains, ropes or on the ends of hooks, lifting, towing and mooring applications.
One way to obtain these measurements is by inserting a shackle in line with the load and, if the shackle is fitted with strain gauges in the pin of the shackle, this then enables the measurement of the tensile load.
Load measuring shackles are used on many mooring buoys to measure hawser tensions and are designed to fit that particular application.
